The Lady Indians were hoping to put the bad memory of the Hallsville game out of their mind and they did a great job of that against a much improved 7-4 Iberia team. The first quarter was the Sara Wolf show as she hit four three’s to lead our attack. As she would tell you, this was a team effort. Iberia played a zone and our girls were very patient and reversed the ball many times to get open looks for her. I thought Reese, Syd and Paige were very good about handling the ball and working for good shots. We got a couple of FT’s from Marley and Alisa and had a four point lead after one. Our Achilles heel in the first and throughout the game was giving up offensive rebounds. Iberia crashed the boards well and got many of the points in the first half of second chance opportunities. This is something that we’ll have to continue to work on going forward. The second quarter was very similar to the first. We hit three three pointers (2 by Sara, 1 by Reese), got a bucket from Marley and Iberia crashed the boards and kept themselves in the game. The third quarter was the key one for us and one we’ve had trouble in at times this year. We got balanced scoring from Syd, Sara, Paige, Reese, and Alisa and held Iberia to only five points to have a 12 point lead going into the fourth. In the fourth Reese hit a big three and Sara went five for six from the line when Iberia had to foul. Our defense was strong again, holding Iberia to only five in the fourth. We only turned the ball over 12 times and had a strong defensive game so hopefully those are some positives to build on moving forward.
