This was the opening game in our pool of the Osage tournament. We were playing a Plato team that we don’t see very often. They didn’t have a ton of wins, but they are well coached and have played many close games against the best their conference has to offer. The girls did a great job of starting off strong, much like we have in many games this year. We got two three’s from Reese and Sara in the opening frame, and with a two pointer from Sara mixed in, those two guards scored our 14 points in the quarter. The ladies played pretty good team defense, but fouled a few times on shots and Plato kept it close by going 4 for 6 from the FT line. In the second, offensively we were strong again. We got threes from three different players and got great defense from our whole team, holding Plato to only five points to lead by 14 at half. We got two more three pointers from Sara as she scored 18 points in the first half. Syd knocked down a big three and Reese got one as well. In the third the girls continued to play real good offense and defense. Five different Indians got buckets in the third and we held them to eight points to lengthen the lead. In those two quarters Lauren was great passing out of the post. She had four assists to three point shooters which is incredible for a big. Getting inside buckets from Alisa and Lauren makes us a pretty tough team. Twenty points up going to the fourth is a great place to be. Definitely the highlight of the fourth quarter and the game was what happened part way through the last frame. Off an inbounds play we reversed the ball to Paige and Sara sealed her girl in the lane. Paige lobbed it in, Sara turned and scored for her 26th point of the night and her 1,000th point of her high school career. She becomes the sixth player in the 44 year history of Osage Lady Indian basketball to reach that milestone. I am so fortunate to get to coach great people like Sara who also happen to be good at basketball. I love that the second the ball went through the hoop, she immediately went to her spot on the press, while pointing to Paige to acknowledge the pass, then she went down on defense and secured one of her 10 rebounds on the night. She is a guard, scored 27 points and also grabbed 10 boards and dished out four assists. Such a great night for a great kid and player.
Scorers-Sara Wolf 27, Reese Good 14, Syd Riley 5, Alisa Boswell 2, Lauren Bartlett 2.
