The Lady Indians hoped to continue their recent string of strong play when Buffalo came to town on Friday. Both teams came in 4-5 on the year and both have been playing much better after slow starts. To say that our girls came out firing on all cylinders would be an understatement. We had found out during the day that we would be without our leading scorer and rebounder for the game so others would have to step up. And they took that personally. Whether it was in transition or in our half court offense the duo of Sara Wolf and Reese Good absolutely lit it up. Reese was three for six and Sara was two for three to lead us with 15 points combined. Sara got fouled on a three at the buzzer and hit all three of her FT’s to score nine in the quarter. Our press gave them fits in the first and our girls got them very out of sync. They’re well coached and got things figured out in the second a little bit better. Buffalo hit a three and then pounded it inside to their big girl who scored six in the quarter. I thought Lauren and Alisa did a pretty good job of making her take tough shots or it could have been closer at halftime. Sara continued her hot shooting in the second, scoring 8 of our thirteen; those outside points were balanced by three points from Lauren and two from Alisa on the inside. Both teams were a bit off in the third quarter. Neither team could get in a flow and combined to shoot 5 for 28 from the field; not pretty basketball. I was proud of the grit we showed only getting outscored by three to have a good lead going into the last frame. Both teams responded to the last quarter. They knocked down three three’s and went four for four from the line. Reese and Sara each hit three’s early, but our FT performance was amazing. Sara went 6 for 6, Paige 2 for 2, Reese 2 for 2 and Syd got a free throw to go as well when Buffalo started to foul and that let us keep a safe lead. It was a great team effort to protect our home floor. The girls are shooting well and that makes us a dangerous team. We have tough road games at 7-2 Hallsville Monday and at 7-4 Iberia on Thursday so we need to keep playing this well.
