Playing any team in the Tri-County is difficult, but coming off a tough loss to Southern Boone made this game even tougher. I was very pleased with the effort and attitude the girls showed from the very beginning. This was going to be a back and forth game throughout the first half. Their big girl made things difficult for us on the inside, but we got some good slashing from Alyssa to finish and to draw fouls. She scored five in the quarter and Reese added a three pointer as part of her five. In the first quarter the press defense of those two in front and Marley and Halle in the second tier really limited the amount of possessions that Versailles had. Down only two after the first was a good place to be. The second quarter belonged to our outside shooters. The girls would hit four three’s in the quarter and five different players would score overall, which makes us hard to guard. Newberry was two for two from deep and Marley and Reese each added a three. Halle and Lauren both continued to pass and rebound very well, limiting second chances and hitting guards with great passes. Up one at half the third quarter would be the game changer. The inside group of Halle, Lauren and Marley did a great job of containing their big and our guards led the way offensively hitting four three’s. Up seven going into the fourth we knew we’d have to hit free throws and we did a pretty good job of making enough to maintain the lead. We got up nine and Versailles was never able to get closer than four the rest of the way. We had three girls in double figures and a strong defensive effort from everyone to get the win.
