This was the opening round game of our home tourney and we were playing a state ranked, 13-1 St. Elizabeth team that had beaten us by 33 one month ago. The start of the game was key for us as we couldn't let them get too far ahead. I was very pleased with the way the girls moved the ball and themselves our first few possessions. Halle had three of her four assists in the first few possessions as she hit Reese for two three pointers and Lauren for a bucket inside. Reese hit three three pointers in the first quarter and Marley added another to really get us going offensively. Buckets from Lauren and Halle rounded a good scoring quarter for us. Both teams didn’t shoot the ball well in the second and it was back and forth throughout. Halle did hit 3 of 4 FT’s during the quarter and Alyssa knocked down our only three of the quarter to help us maintain a two point lead at the break. The second half was one of our best offensive halves of the season as we scored 34 points. Marley hit 2 three’s in the quarter and Reese added another. Lauren scored six of her 10 points in this quarter and we gave up only one offensive rebound. Holding them to only seven points put us in a great position to see out a victory heading into the fourth quarter. Every time that St. E would score, we would seem to find a way to respond. Whether it was a defensive stop or or big rebound from Lauren or Halle the girls always had an answer. When the fouls came our girls knocked down 7 of 10 in the fourth quarter to hang on for the win. Reese had a great shooting night going 5 for 6 from three and 4 for 4 from the FT line. Alyssa and Lauren being in double figures gave us three in doubles and that is a great sign. Especially since Marley finished one point out of doubles herself. One of the more impressive things I have seen recently was the performance of Lauren on the boards. She ended up with 22 rebounds; a staggering number. I was so impressed with how hard they played for the entire game. Great win.
